Why We Use Google Cloud: 7 Years of Experience and What We've Learned – Part 1

We've been working intensively with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) for about seven years. What started as a small project has become a key part of our tech stack. With this blog series, we want to share our experience – openly, honestly, and focused on what really matters in the cloud.

Why Google Cloud – and not AWS or Azure?

Of course, we're also familiar with AWS, Azure, and various VPS providers. But for many of our client projects, the advantages of Google Cloud have proven decisive. A few reasons why:

  • Developer Experience: GCP feels “complete” the platform is well structured, clearly documented, and easy to use even without cloud certification.
  • Transparent Pricing: Unlike some competitors, GCP’s pricing model is understandable – and attractive thanks to features like “Sustained Use Discounts”.
  • Modern Services: Tools like GKE, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, or BigQuery are powerful and built to integrate seamlessly with modern development workflows.
  • Global Infrastructure: From CDN and data centers to automatic load balancing – GCP offers the same infrastructure that powers Google itself.

Our Use Cases – A Look at Real-World Projects

In recent years, we’ve applied GCP in many different projects. A few examples:

  • Scalable web platforms: For clients with highly variable traffic (e.g. seasonal campaigns or product launches), we rely on auto-scaled GKE or Cloud Run
  • Data analytics & reporting: With CloudSQL and BigQuery, massive data sets can be analyzed in seconds rather than hours – a true advantage for e-commerce clients or platform providers
  • CI/CD & DevOps: We use Cloud Build and Artifact Registry to set up automated deployments that are stable, secure, and fast

Our Conclusion – and What’s Next

For us, Google Cloud isn’t just a playground, it’s a strategic tool. We don’t use it because it’s “trendy” but because it proves itself in practice. In the next parts of this series, we’ll show how to use GCP efficiently, what challenges to expect, and how to develop a smart cloud strategy.
